Birkis
The Birkenstock name has been associated with the shoe business as far back as 1774, where in a small German village Johann Adam Birkenstock was registered as a shoemaker. In 1897 Konrad Birkenstock, Johann’s grandson, developed the first contoured insole and then in 1902 he created the first flexible arch support. During 1966, while vacationing in Germany Margot Fraser, suffering from foot pain, discovered Birkenstock sandals. After wearing the Birkenstock sandals, Margot found relief from her foot condition that she had suffered from for years and became a firm believer in the health benefits of Birkenstock footwear. Margot’s belief in the Birkenstock shoes was so strong that she became the US import/distributor for the Birkenstock brand.
